NBA game blackouts: International League Pass vs. U.S. League Pass

What’s the difference between watching NBA League Pass in Germany, Australia, Canada, or the U.S.? League Pass is available both inside and outside the States. However, there are key differences every fan needs to know.

The U.S. League Pass offers live games and full-game replays for all teams. However, blackouts apply. When a team is playing, that game will be “blacked out” on the U.S. League Pass for the team’s home market. Nationally broadcast games on ESPN, ABC, TNT, and NBA TV will also be blacked out. (All blacked out games are available three days after broadcast. If you purchased the 3-Game Choice package, nationally telecast games will be available for purchase three hours after they have aired. Locally telecast games will be available for purchase three days after they air.)

Want to tune in without having to worry about blackouts? The International League Pass also offers live games for all teams, but without a single blackout!

That’s because blackouts are put in place to protect local broadcasters’ viewership, while preserving users’ ability to watch out-of-market games. If you’re streaming from a country outside the United States or Canada, every game is effectively “out-of-market,” meaning that there are no blackouts to worry about. If you only want to watch the games for a single team, select the “Team Choice” option to save some money!

How to cancel NBA League Pass

If you feel like you’re not getting value out of your subscription, cancelling it is not an arduous process. There is a comprehensive guide on how to cancel. You should also be aware that the service auto renews monthly—if you’re on a monthly subscription—or prior to the season if you’ve purchased an annual subscription. You can opt out of auto renewals and you will be notified by email prior to getting auto renewed for a full season.

NBA Award races

MVPNikola Jokić, Denver Nuggets

Kevin Durant and Steph Curry deserve serious consideration for this award, but Jokić’s all-around contribution on the court is unmatched. Injuries have decimated the Nuggets, but despite a lack of weapons around him Jokić remains an unbelievably efficient primary option who excels as a scorer and playmaker. He’s essentially recreating last season’s offensive output while taking a significant step forward as both a defender and rebounder.

[Preseason prediction: Kevin Durant]

Defensive Player of the Year – Rudy Gobert, Utah Jazz

Although Gobert feels like a boring pick here, there’s a reason he’s won this award three times before. The ‘Stifle Tower’ makes it impossible for opponents to go to work in the paint, and single-handedly forces opponents to rely heavily on jump shooting if they want to beat the Jazz.

[Preseason prediction: Matisse Thybulle]

Rookie of the YearEvan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers

Mobley is already at the very top of the rookie scoring list, but his all-around contribution to the rising Cavaliers can’t be ignored. The former USC star has arrived as a defensive stalwart ahead of schedule, serving as a top-flight rim protector while chipping in efficient contributions on offense and doing his fair share of rebounding.

[Preseason prediction: Jalen Green]

Most Improved PlayerJa Morant, Memphis Grizzlies

It’s tough to win this award when you’re already a star, but Morant’s play is leaps and bounds better than it’s ever been before. The speedy and tenacious point guard has turned the Grizzlies into a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference and become one of the most dynamic point guards in the league.

[Preseason prediction: Nickeil Alexander-Walker]

Sixth Man of the YearMontrezl Harrell, Washington Wizards

After a down year with the Lakers last season, Harrell is recapturing the form that saw him win this award in 2019-20. Although he has some defensive limitations, his ability to create instant offense off the bench is second to none.

[Preseason prediction: Kevin Huerter]

Coach of the YearBilly Donovan, Chicago Bulls

The Bulls are off to their best start since the Michael Jordan era, and although new additions DeMar DeRozan and Lonzo Ball might be more responsible for that than Donovan, the bench boss deserves some credit. If Chicago continues at anything like this pace, the former Oklahoma City Thunder coach should easily grab this award.

[Preseason prediction: Billy Donovan]

Who’s going to win the NBA title?

For most of the offseason the Brooklyn Nets were considered the prohibitive title favorites, but the club’s outlook has dimmed slightly due to the absence of Kyrie Irving. It would still be unwise to assume Brooklyn is out of the race, but the door is cracked open—particularly in the Eastern Conference, where the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks are bringing back essentially the same team from last year. The other contenders in the East—the Philadelphia 76ersChicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat—all have too many blemishes to project as true title threats, but in-season additions or surprising breakouts could change that.

In the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors look like top dogs with Steph Curry’s offensive excellence and the emergence of Jordan Poole — and with Klay Thompson back they’re only getting stronger. The Los Angeles Lakers should be a threat to Golden State, but there are legitimate questions about what the addition of Russell Westbrook is doing to their spacing. The Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets are interesting teams because neither looks like a contender now, but each has a star returning (Kawhi Leonard and Jamal Murray) that could change their fortunes. Other possible threats to the Lakers’ supremacy include the Luka Dončić-led Dallas Mavericks, last year’s top seed, the Utah Jazz, and the Phoenix Suns, who look like they’re recapturing the magic that sent them to the NBA Finals last year, and can’t be counted out.

  1. btw your company should NEVER suggest NBA League Pass. They are the most f’d up website and organization ever. I did subscribe and still get billed monthly despite more than 20 requests to cancel. The site itself is entirely geared to selling you subscriptions. I was never able to watch even one Warrior’s game. Horrible customer service
