What to expect from a Dodgers vs. Rays World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the most talented baseball team on the planet. That’s not really in dispute, and it shouldn’t be after their impressive comeback from 3-1 to beat the Atlanta Braves. They’ve got a lineup featuring Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy, and Justin Turner. Their rotation is headed by Walker Buehler and a renewed Clayton Kershaw. The bullpen has big names like Kenley Jansen and Blake Treinen, as well as up-and-coming fireballer Brusdar Graterol. It’s almost impossible to poke holes in this team.

But that doesn’t mean they’re a lock to win this thing. The Dodgers have arguably fielded the best team in baseball for the last four seasons and have been unable to break through. As a franchise, they haven’t brought home the title since 1988. Whether you’re cheering for them to finally get to where they’re going, or you like to see a juggernaut take a fall, they’ll make for a compelling combatant in the Fall Classic.

Their opponents, the Tampa Bay Rays, represent a formidable challenge. This team tends to be thought of as scrappy due to their small budget, but there’s elite talent on the roster. Their biggest advantage is a deep rotation that goes beyond the one-two punch of Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, thanks to Charlie Morton occupying the three spot and Ryan Yarbrough’s ability to deliver quality innings as a fourth starter. The Rays’ stable of arms is deep, proven, and unlikely to wilt under the pressure of the World Series.

While the Rays can’t match the Dodgers’ sheer firepower on offense, their lineup is more versatile and better able to adapt to different matchups. Kevin Cash can bring quality players off the bench in crucial spots to pick apart the weakness of the Dodgers‘ relievers. The Rays got the ALDS-winning home run by bringing Mike Brosseau off the bench at the perfect time to combat the Yankees’ southpaw relief aces. There are plenty of moves this team can make, and you don’t want to be in close games with them in the later innings because of their combination of elite relievers and pinch-hitting options.

What are the dates for the 2020 World Series?

The particulars of the Fall Classic’s schedule have yet to be finalized, but here’s an outline. Any names with an asterisk beside them will one be played if necessary.
