When are Champions League matches played?

The UEFA Champions League runs alongside each country’s national league, so games are always played mid-week. The tournament starts with a group stage that runs from September to December, with matches played Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 12:55 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time (U.S.).

The Champions League then switches to a knockout tournament that runs from February until the final in early June. The tournament final will be played on May 30, 2020, at Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul.

Can Liverpool FC win the Champions League again?

Not this year. A masterful performance from Atletico Madrid across two legs ended the Anfield Reds’ title defense. Of the remaining teams, Bayern Munich is a deserved favorite to go all the way. With results like the 10-3 aggregate thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur, there are few teams that can stop Robert Lewandowski and co. when the team clicks.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been off the pace this year. The Portuguese great finished third in Ballon d’Or voting and is not near the top of the Italian or European goalscoring charts. That said, the Champions League knockouts always seem to get the best out of CR7. Expect Ronaldo to find a second gear as we approach the business end of the Champions League season!

  4. Hi,

What’s the best way to watch Champions League games free? I’m interested in getting your service but don’t want to pay extra for games.

    1. Hi Will,

BT Sport is showing some of the games without requiring a subscription. Other ways to watch include the free trials on Fubo TV and Sling TV. However, you will need to input valid U.S. credit card details to use the free trial.

  5. Hi,
Living in Asia so all champion league games are around 3am – do you have re-play service in your program, that way I can watch with my morning coffee…

  6. I am Telling You, It’s Barcelona’s Year. Fear the MSN. Visca el barca 😉 We will make history again by at least retaining the CL if not winning the treble back-to-back. Game’s ON!
