Possible errors and troubleshooting steps

Error 0x80070005

This error is caused by an error in system permissions. Try the below solutions one by one, checking after each if you can install ExpressVPN successfully.

  1. Quit ExpressVPN (if currently running), then try running the ExpressVPN installer again
  2. Right click on the ExpressVPN installer file and select Run as administrator
  3. Disable your antivirus and try running the ExpressVPN installer again

If you are unable to resolve the installation error after trying these solutions, please contact ExpressVPN Support.

Error 0x80070643

There may be a variety of issues causing this error. Try the below solutions one by one, checking after each if you can install ExpressVPN successfully.

  1. Restart your computer and try running the installer again (complete all Windows updates if any are pending)
  2. Disable your antivirus and try running the installer again
  3. Restart the Windows installer service by:
    1. Opening cmd.exe, then type “services.msc” and press Enter to open the Services window
    2. Click on Windows Installer, then Restart

Error 0x80070652

An application other than ExpressVPN is currently being installed. Please complete the installation before running the ExpressVPN installer again.

Still getting an installation error?

If you are still unable to complete the installation, quit the ExpressVPN installer and follow the steps below:

1. Collect diagnostic files

1. Open Windows Explorer and type “%temp%” in the address bar.

2. Locate the files starting with “ExpressVPN_” and containing a timestamp matching your last installation attempt. For example:

  • ExpressVPN_20180127183014.log
  • ExpressVPN_20180127183014_000_splittunneldrivermsi.lor
  • ExpressVPN_20180127183014_001_tapdrivermsiwin10.log
  • ExpressVPN_20180127183014_002_mainmsi.log

3. Move the files to your desktop

4. In Windows Explorer, type “C:\Windows\inf” in the address bar.

5. Locate the file “setupapi.dev.log”

6. Move the file to your desktop
