At a glance: what you need to know

  • Older versions of the ExpressVPN app will stop working on January 14th 2026
  • Certificates used on older versions of the ExpressVPN app will expire, meaning they will no longer be able to communicate with our servers
  • Update your app now to stay connected

More detail:

Older versions of the ExpressVPN app will lose the ability to connect once ExpressVPN’s old certificate is replaced. We’ll begin transitioning to the new system from January 14 2026, so it’s important to update your app before then.

This applies to every platform, from Windows, Mac, and Linux, to Android, iOS, and our Aircove routers. If you're running ExpressVPN’s deprecated legacy Linux app, you'll need to move to our GUI app to stay connected.

Certificates are designed to expire, ensuring that only the most current, trusted credentials keep you connected to our servers. By updating your app to the latest version, you'll ensure ExpressVPN continues to work without interruption, keeping you shielded with post-quantum protection.

What you need to do

If you're already using the latest version of ExpressVPN, you're all set. But if automatic updates are turned off, or you haven't updated the app on a specific device in a while, now's a good time to do so.

For smart TVs running MediaStreamer, you don't need to lift a finger—everything will continue to run smoothly over DNS. Legacy third-party routers flashed with ExpressVPN firmware will also auto-update to the correct version in December 2025. Since your browser extension is linked to your main VPN client, updating your desktop apps will keep you protected there too.

Choose your platform below to get the latest supported version:

Apple tvOS 12.11.0 or newer July 2025

We'll share periodic updates before the shut-off date, but highly recommend updating early so you can get back to what matters: secure, seamless browsing with peace of mind.
