This guide explains how to subscribe to ExpressVPN directly within the Identity Defender mobile apps on iOS and Android.

When you purchase a subscription through the Identity Defender apps, you’ll get access to the Pro plan, which also includes ExpressVPN, ExpressKeys, ExpressMailGuard, ExpressAI, and the holiday.com eSIM.

This subscription is linked to your app store account on the Apple App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android, which means billing, renewals, and refunds are handled directly through that platform. Note: Identity Defender is also available on the Advanced plan (features vary). To purchase an Advanced plan, you’ll need to subscribe through the ExpressVPN website instead. You can switch from the Advanced to Pro plan or vice versa at any time after subscribing.

How to purchase an ExpressVPN subscription in Identity Defender for iOS

1. Download and install the Identity Defender app on iOS

  1. Open the App Store on your iOS device, tap Search, and search for “Identity Defender.”
  2. Tap Get and wait for the app to download and install.

2. Purchase an ExpressVPN subscription on iOS

Once installed, you can purchase an ExpressVPN subscription in the Identity Defender app.

If you already have a Basic or expired ExpressVPN subscription: You do not need to create a new account. On the welcome screen, select Sign In and follow the instructions to log into your account. You’ll then be prompted to upgrade or purchase a new subscription.

How to purchase an ExpressVPN subscription in Identity Defender for Android

1. Download and install the Identity Defender app on Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device and tap Search.
  2. Search for “Identity Defender” and tap the app.
  3. Tap Install to download and install the app.

2. Purchase an ExpressVPN subscription on Android

Once installed, open the Identity Defender app and follow the steps below to purchase an ExpressVPN subscription.

If you already have a Basic or expired ExpressVPN subscription: You do not need to create a new account. On the welcome screen, select Sign In and follow the instructions to log into your account. You’ll then be prompted to upgrade or purchase a new subscription.

How to set up your ExpressVPN account after in-app purchase

After completing your purchase, you’ll be prompted to create an ExpressVPN account to access your subscription.

The account you create here gives you access to the ExpressVPN+ portal and every product included in your subscription tier. You’ll be able to use the same credentials to log into all ExpressVPN services.

The steps for creating an ExpressVPN account are the same on iOS and Android.

  1. When prompted, enter your email address twice and tap Create Account.The Create ExpressVPN account" page on mobile.

You now have an ExpressVPN account and can continue setting up and using Identity Defender from here. Follow these instructions to set up Identity Defender.

What to do if you dismissed the account setup

Important: To use the Identity Defender app, you have to create an ExpressVPN account.

If you dismissed the account setup prompt or closed the app before completing it, open the Identity Defender app, and on the welcome screen, tap Restore Purchase. Once done, you’ll see a confirmation that your subscription has been restored and you’ll be prompted to set up your account.
