What is Fortify?
Fortify (GL-MT6000) is an AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 router developed by GL.iNet in collaboration with ExpressVPN. It's built to bring ExpressVPN protection to your entire home network, including devices like smart TVs, game consoles, and IoT gadgets that can't run a VPN app directly.
How is Fortify different from other routers?
Unlike a standard router, Fortify has a dedicated ExpressVPN interface built right into the dashboard, with a guided setup flow for activating and managing VPN protection at the router level. It pairs GL.iNet's advanced networking features — like Multi-WAN failover, 2.5G Ethernet, and smart queue management — with high-speed VPN routing, so protecting your whole network doesn't come at the cost of performance.
Do I need an ExpressVPN subscription if I have Fortify?
No. You can use Fortify without ExpressVPN, but it won’t offer the same level of privacy and protection. Fortify comes with a 12-month ExpressVPN Advanced Plan included (for new and returning customers), so you're covered right out of the box. To keep VPN protection active on the router after that period, you'll need to renew your ExpressVPN subscription.
Is Fortify a Wi-Fi mesh system?
No — Fortify is a single, standalone Wi-Fi 6 router rather than a multi-node mesh system. It's built with 8 high-power FEMs to extend coverage up to 1,600 sq ft on its own, which suits medium-sized homes without needing additional mesh nodes.
What internet speeds will I get with Fortify?
On Wi-Fi, Fortify supports up to 1148 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and up to 4804 Mbps on the 5 GHz band. With ExpressVPN active, it supports VPN routing speeds of up to 900 Mbps over WireGuard® and up to 880 Mbps over OpenVPN DCO. Actual speeds will depend on your ISP, the VPN server you connect to, your device, and overall network conditions.
