2022 Heisman Trophy finalists

Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams was named the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner on SaturdayDecember 10. Here’s all you need to know about Williams, along with the three quarterbacks he beat out to win college football’s most prestigous award.

Caleb Williams, QB, Southern California: The 6-foot-1, 218-pound Williams carved up defenses in his first season at USC, completing 66.1% of his passes for 4,075 yards, 37 touchdowns, and four interceptions across 13 games. Williams, who impressed as a true freshman at Oklahoma last year, also rushed for 10 touchdowns and led the Trojans to the Pac-12 Championship Game.

C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State: After finishing fourth in the Heisman voting last year, Stroud was again a finalist in 2022. The third-year Buckeyes quarterback posted a 66.2 completion percentage, 3,340 yards, 37 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Although his numbers were significantly lower than they were a year ago, the Ohio State standout spent much of the 2022 season as the betting favorite to win the award.

Max Duggan, QB, TCU: Duggan exploded for career-highs in completion percentage (64.9%), passing yards (3,321), and passing touchdowns (30), and added six rushing touchdowns for the Big 12 runner-up. The senior gunslinger averaged nine yards per attempt and only threw four interceptions in 368 attempts. Although Duggan didn’t win the Heisman, he has at least positioned himself to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Stetson Bennett IV, QB, Georgia: Once a walk-on who transferred to junior college before returning to Athens, Bennett has evolved into a Georgia Bulldogs legend. The 25-year-old tallied a 67.9 completion percentage, 3,425 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions, and seven rushing scores for the SEC champion Bulldogs.
