What is split tunneling?

Split tunneling is the process of allowing a VPN user to access a public network while also allowing the user to access resources on the VPN.

How does split tunneling work?

Practically, split tunneling allows you to access the internet while also accessing devices on a remote network, such as a network printer.

How does ExpressVPN use split tunneling?

The ExpressVPN App for Routers has split-tunneling capabilities, allowing users to select which devices connected to the router are protected by the VPN and which are simply connected to the internet.

The ExpressVPN App for Mac has a split-tunneling feature called “Connection Per App”. Mac users can select which apps will use the VPN and which apps won’t when their computer is connected to ExpressVPN.

ExpressVPN apps use split tunneling to give you the best of security and accessibility. Learn about ExpressVPN’s Split Tunneling feature here.
