Update your ExpressVPN app

Before proceeding further, upgrade to the latest version of the ExpressVPN app for Windows. To upgrade your app:

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Click Set Up ExpressVPN.
  3. Select Windows on the left-side menu and then click Download on the right.
  4. Set up your app.

Further instructions for Windows 7

If you are using a Windows 7 machine, please follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the Windows Start menu, go to All Programs, and then Accessories.
  2. Right-click on Command Prompt and then click Run as Administrator to launch the prompt with full administrative privileges.
  3. On the command prompt (black screen), type the following command:
    net start ExpressVpnservice
  4. Press Enter.
  5. Try launching ExpressVPN again.

Further instructions for Windows 8 and 10

If you are using a Windows 8 (8.1) or 10 machine, please follow the steps below:

  1. Press Start or Windows key + X on your keyboard to open a dialog box.
  2. Look for Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. On the command prompt, type the following command:
    net start ExpressVpnservice
  4. Press Enter.
  5. Try launching ExpressVPN again.

If the problem persists…

  1. Please restart your computer or uninstall and then reinstall ExpressVPN on your machine.
  2. For Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, you may also try downloading and reinstalling the .Net Framework from this page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42642
