This guide will show you how to find which version of Windows you are using. To use the ExpressVPN Windows app, you will need Windows 7 or above.

If you are using Windows 7 or above, use the ExpressVPN app.

If you are using Windows Vista or XP, update Windows to download the latest version of the ExpressVPN app, which comes with the latest security and privacy enhancements. If you cannot use Windows 7 or above, use the L2TP/IPsec or OpenVPN manual configuration.

Find out if you are using…

Windows 11
Windows 10
Windows 8 or 8.1
Windows 7
Windows Vista
Windows XP

Windows 11

If you are using Windows 11, by default, your taskbar is aligned to the center of the screen. When you click the Start button, the menu will look like this:

To confirm you are using Windows 11:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click Settings icon. Settings.
  3. Click About.
  4. Under Windows specifications, next to Edition, you will see Windows 11.
    Under “Windows specifications,” next to “Edition,” you will see “Windows 11.”

Windows 10

If you are using Windows 10, by default, your taskbar is aligned to the bottom-left of the screen. When you click Window's Start button., the menu will look like this:

To confirm you are using Windows 10:

  1. Click Window's Start button..
  2. In the search bar, type about your PC.
  3. Click About your PC.
  4. Under Windows specifications, next to Edition, you will see Windows 10.
    Under “Windows specifications,” next to “Edition,” you will see “Windows 10.”

Windows 8 or Windows 8.1

If you are using Windows 8 or 8.1, when you click Window's Start button., the menu will look like this:

  1. Click Window's Start button..
  2. Click Settings icon..
  3. Click PC and devices > PC info.
  4. Under Windows, next to Edition, you will see your Windows version.
    Under “Windows,” next to “Edition,” you will see your Windows version.

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Right-click Computer, then click Properties.
  3. Under Windows edition, you will see Windows 7.
