When are Europa League matches played?

The ‘league’ part of the tournament usually starts in mid-September. Matches are played on Thursday evenings every two weeks until mid-December.

The Europa League then switches to a knockout format, which starts with the Round of 32 in mid-February. Matches are then played most weeks until the final, always on Thursday nights.

The 2020 Europa League final will be played on May 27 at Stadion Energa Gdańsk in Gdańsk, Poland.

Who wins the Europa League?

Arsenal are back in the Europa League for another season. With Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fronting an electric attack, the Gunners look like a threat to finally bag some continental silverware, as long as they don’t bottle the final again!

Meanwhile, Manchester United continue their post-Ferguson malaise and, with chances of a top-four finish looking slim, will be hoping to win the Europa League for a second time to return to the Champions League. Can the Red Devils make lightning strike twice?
