This guide will show you how to upgrade your ExpressVPN Router Firmware.

Before you start:  Go to www.expressvpn.com/latest and download the latest firmware for your router model. Make sure to download the correct mode-specific firmware.

Go to www.expressvpnrouter.com. In the sidebar, go to Advanced Settings > Software Update.

Click on "Software Update".

Click on Choose file and select the firmware file.

Click to select the firmware.

Click Update Now.

Click "Update Now" to flash to the new firmware.

Wait a moment while the firmware is upgrading. You will be taken back to the dashboard when the process has been completed.

I cannot update my ExpressVPN router firmware

Customers using old beta versions of the ExpressVPN router app may encounter an “invalid file” error when trying to update their firmware through the ExpressVPN router dashboard.

To update to the latest ExpressVPN firmware:

  1. Go to http://expressvpnrouter.com:8080/. This will take you to the DD-WRT router interface.
  2. Enter your router admin credentials. The username is “admin” and the password is the same password you use to log in to the ExpressVPN router dashboard.
  3. Select Administration > Firmware Upgrade.
  4. Click Choose file and select the firmware you downloaded.
  5. Click Upgrade and wait for the upgrade to complete.

ExpressVPN router v1

In the top navigation bar, select System. In the left-side menu, select Backup / Flash Firmware.

Click on Choose File and select the firmware file. Next, click Flash Image…

Select whether you want to reset to default settings after upgrading.

You will be asked to verify whether you want to flash the firmware. Click Proceed.

Wait a moment while the firmware is upgrading. During this process, you will be asked if you want to keep your current configurations. After the upgrade is complete, you will need to sign in again. Enter the username and password found on your printed instructions sheet or the bottom of your router and click Login.

Note: During the firmware upgrade process, your device will be disconnected from the router’s Wi-Fi. This is completely normal. To complete the upgrade process, simply select and connect to the router’s Wi-Fi from your device again.
