Initialization Sequence Completed with Errors

Route: Waiting for TUN/TAP interface to come up

If the ExpressVPN log file or diagnostics contains “Initialization Sequence Completed with Errors“, or it contains repetitive lines including “Route: Waiting for TUN/TAP interface to come up“, do the following:

Restart the DHCP client service:

  1. Press and hold the Windows logo key and press R. (⊞ Win + R)
  2. Type the following, then click OK to bring up the service manager: services.msc
  3. In the list of services, find and double-click DHCP Client.
  4. Set the Startup type to Automatic.
  5. If the Service status is Started, click Stop.
  6. Click Start.
  7. Click OK, and close the service manager.
  8. Restart ExpressVPN and try connecting again.

If that doesn’t resolve the problem, reset winsock:

  1. First, enter the Command Prompt.For Windows 8:
    • On the Start screen, type: CMD
    • In the search results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

    For Windows Vista or Windows 7:

    • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories.
    • Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

    For Windows XP:

    • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories.
    • Click Command Prompt.
  2. Run the following commands:netsh int ip reset logfile.txtnetsh winsock reset catalog
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. Start ExpressVPN and try connecting again.
