Use this tutorial to learn how to configure your Netgear Router with MediaStreamer by changing your DNS settings.
Note that MediaStreamer DNS is NOT a VPN. It does not offer the privacy and security benefits of a VPN. To encrypt your traffic, use the ExpressVPN app for routers.
MediaStreamer not working? To use the MediaStreamer DNS servers, you must register your IP address with our system. It’s super easy. Find out how to do it in the section: Register your IP address to access MediaStreamer with DNS.
Get your DDNS hostname
Go to https://www.dynu.com and click Create Account.
Create your account to receive the account verification email from Dynu.
Open the link in the verification email then log in to your account on https://www.dynu.com and select DDNS Services.
Click on + Add to add a DDNS service.
If you do not have a hostname already, enter your desired hostname in Option 1 and click + Add. This is the recommended option fo users who are not familiar with domain names.
If you already have your own domain name, enter your domain name in Option 2 and click +Add.
Once done, you will see your hostname and your current public IP. Make sure the settings in the middle are turned OFF and click Save. However, if you wish to receive email notifications from Dynu, set Email Notification to ON.
And that’s it! Your DDNS hostname is set up and ready to be used!
Get your DNS server IP addresses
To set up the MediaStreamer DNS server on your Netgear router, you will need to obtain the MediaStreamer DNS server IP address.
Open the Welcome Email you received when you signed up for ExpressVPN. Click the link in the email.
If you can’t find the link, sign in to your ExpressVPN account.
Once you’ve clicked the link in the welcome email or signed in to the website, click on Set Up on More Devices.
Open the MediaStreamer section. You will find the MediaStreamer DNS server IP addresses there. Keep it on hand for the setup.
Log in to your Netgear router
Open a browser window. Access your router’s control panel by typing http://www.routerlogin.net in your browser’s address bar.
Log in with your user name and password. The default user name is “admin” and the default password is “password”. If you have changed your user name and password, then log in with your credentials instead.
Configure the DNS servers
Click the Internet button on the main menu.
On the Internet Setup page, scroll down to the section called Domain Name Server (DNS) Address.
Enable Use These DNS Servers, then set the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS to the MediaStreamer DNS IP addresses, which you obtained earlier.
Click Apply to save the new settings.
Please be patient! It may take up to 30 seconds for your new settings to be applied.
Great! Your Netgear router is now set up with the DNS. Enjoy!
