This guide will show you how to resolve the following errors listed in the ExpressVPN app for Windows’s diagnostics file.

Error 1:
TCP: connect to 78.129.233.74:10086 failed, will try again in 5 seconds: Network is unreachable (WSAENETUNREACH)
SIGTERM[soft,init_instance] received, process exiting

Error 2:
NETSH: C:\WINDOWS\system32\netsh.exe interface ip set address Local Area Connection 2 dhcp
Failed to configure the DHCP service. The interface may be disconnected.
The system cannot find the file specified.
ERROR: netsh command failed: returned error code 1

  2. Perform a Winsock reset
  3. Restart DHCP Services

2. Perform a Winsock reset

On your Windows device:

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories.
  2. Open Command Prompt:
    • For Windows Vista or above, right-click Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator.
    • For Windows XP, click Command Prompt.
  3. In the Command Prompt, enter the following commands:
    netsh int ip reset logfile.txt
    netsh winsock reset catalog
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Launch the ExpressVPN app.
  6. Connect to a VPN server location.

3. Restart DHCP Services

On your Windows device:

  1. Click Start > Run (or press Window Key + R).
  2. Enter
    services.msc
  3. Click OK.
  4. On the Services list, double-click DHCP Client.
  5. Set Startup Type to Automatic.
    • If the Service status shows Stopped, click Start.
    • If the Service status shows Started, click Stop > Start.
  6. Close the window.
  7. Launch the ExpressVPN app.
  8. Connect to a VPN server location.
