What causes authentication issues on Motorola devices?
ExpressVPN’s authentication flow may be affected by restrictive application permissions. On Motorola, Moto Secure is a possible cause.
It is a security and privacy app that comes preinstalled on Motorola devices with Android 13 and above.
Moto Secure aims to protect your sensitive data, guard against malicious apps, and improve network security. One of the ways it does that is by controlling app permissions.
However, some of its features (like “Phishing detection” or “Protect from online scammers”) can disrupt Authentication Webview. This is required by specific apps, such as ExpressVPN, to complete the authentication process. Community members have been reporting this issue as far back as 2024.
