Who wins the 2019 MLS cup?

What a year it’s been for LAFC. The black and gold half of Los Angeles became the greatest team in the history of the league, finishing the regular season a whopping 16 points ahead of the Seattle Sounders to top the Western ConferenceCarlos Vela led the way with a mind-boggling 34 goals in 31 games, solidifying his standing as perhaps the best player on the continent. Can Vela lead LAFC to a first MLS Cup?

Speaking of Vela, one of his incredible achievements was breaking the single-season scoring record set by Josef Martinez last year. Martinez could not replicate his scoring heights from 2018 but still finished the regular season with an impressive 27 goals and has Atlanta United sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference. Expect Martinez to find another gear as the playoffs begin.

Finally, keep an eye on Manchester United old boys Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimović. Wazza‘s had a quiet second term and will hope to capture the MLS Cup before returning to England at the end of the year. Meanwhile, The Lion has built on his explosive first year and is the only other worthy contender, along with Vela, for the Landon Donovan MVP Award. Can Zlatan’s goalscoring exploits take LA Galaxy to the promised land?
