How to stream NFL games with a VPN

The 2021 NFL season kicks off on September 9, and whether you’re looking to find the best way to watch NFL Game Pass on your Apple TV or Android TV, or test cord-cutting services that include NFL action, you’ve come to the right place.

On this page you’ll find information on how to securely watch the NFL with a VPN, analyses and predictions for upcoming games, and ongoing odds for the best bet to win the Super Bowl.

Get NFL Game Pass international and stream games live without blackouts

If you’re looking to catch every game of the 2021 NFL season, but don’t have a U.S. cable subscription, NFL Game Pass is your best option.

You can access NFL Game Pass worldwide, but the U.S. version does not allow live streaming of games. Some games are blacked out in parts of Europe as well. Only users who sign up for Game Pass from a non-U.S. and non-Europe location will have live-streaming access to every game, everywhere.

To access NFL Game Pass with a VPN:

  1. Get ExpressVPN.
  2. Connect to a non-U.S. location where all games are available. For assistance, contact ExpressVPN Support via live chat.
  3. Go to NFL Game Pass and sign up.
  4. Sit back and enjoy!

NFL blackouts: International Game Pass vs. U.S. Game Pass

What’s the difference between watching NFL Game Pass in Germany, Australia, Canada, or the U.S.? NFL Game Pass is available both inside and outside the States. However, there are key differences every fan needs to know:

The U.S. NFL Game Pass does not offer live streaming of regular-season or postseason games. It provides streams of out-of-market preseason games, on-demand replays of every regular-season game, and the NFL Films archive. There are no blackouts of regular-season games (because none are shown live at all). A seven-day free trial is available.

In most other markets, such as Mexico and most EU countries, the international NFL Game Pass offers all 256 regular-season games plus the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl. Users trying to watch the NFL in the UK or Ireland are subject to blackouts on some games, and for viewers who want to stream the NFL in Canada, Game Pass is available exclusively through DAZN.

Most international Game Pass subscribers get access to NFL RedZone, the NFL Network, and all NFL Films programming. There’s a seven-day free trial available.

More Game Pass Information

If you’re looking for more information before committing to a Game Pass subscription, here are some answers to some of the questions you may have:

Is NFL Game Pass UK the same as International Game Pass?

In a word, no. Regional broadcasting rights in the UK and the Republic of Ireland mean certain games are subject to blackout restrictions.

This applies even if a subscriber from the UK or Ireland is in another part of the EU. Existing EU Portability Regulations require UK and Ireland blackout restrictions to apply no matter where in the EU the subscriber is.

Can I watch NFL Game Pass in Europe?

EU viewers who subscribe to NFL Game Pass from most locations other than the UK or Ireland should have access to all games live, although limited blackouts may apply if such users try to watch from the UK or Ireland.

Where is the cheapest location to get NFL International Game Pass?

NFL international Game Pass prices vary from region to region, but South American locations tend to offer the lowest prices. For information about specific countries, contact ExpressVPN Support.

Subscription refunds are valid up to seven days from the purchase date. Free trial refunds are valid up to three days after the trial ends. More details can be found on the NFL Digital Care site.

Which devices can I watch International NFL Game Pass on?

NFL Game Pass works on the following devices. To set up ExpressVPN on your device, follow the corresponding link below:

Top NFL Week 2 games

While all 32 teams are in action, there are a few Week 2 games on the schedule that especially stand out (all times EDT):

Thursday Night Football: New York Giants vs. Washington Football Team – September 16, 8:20 p.m.

If you’re a fan of grind-it-out defensive showdowns this could be the game for you. Neither squad has much going on offense—especially with Ryan Fitzpatrick out with a hip injury—but each has plenty of talent on the other side of the ball. Daniel Jones’s scrambling ability will be put to the test in this one against one of the best pass rushes in the NFL.

Top early game: San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles – September 19, 1 p.m.

Although the 49ers suffered a late-game wobble against the Detroit Lions in Week 1, they put up an impressive 41 points, and look like a dangerous offense, especially as rookie Trey Lance becomes more involved. The Eagles are coming off one of last week’s most dominant wins, and looked surprisingly dangerous behind dual-threat quarterback Jalen Hurts. Whichever team comes out on top can feel good about where it stands going into Week 3.

Top late game: Tennessee Titans vs. Seattle Seahawks – September 19, 4:25 p.m.

This game should be a polar opposite to Thursday’s defensive battle. Both of these teams have offenses far better than their defenses, meaning the punters will probably have a restful day on the bench. The Seahawks got off to an outstanding start in Week 1 with a big win over the Colts, while the Titans struggled against the Cardinals, but it’s hard to see either team running away with this one considering they both have enough firepower to erase significant leads.

Sunday Night Football: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens – September 19, 8:20 p.m..

The Chiefs and Ravens have been the primary powers of the AFC since the Patrick MahomesLamar Jackson era began, and the games between them don’t tend to disappoint. The Ravens rely on a run-based attack that makes it hard for them to keep up with Kansas City in shootouts, but if they can play a turnover-free ball-control game, there’s a chance they can keep Mahomes on the sideline long enough to come up with a win.

Monday Night Football: Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers – September 20, 8:15 p.m

No team was more disappointing in Week 1 than the Packers, but a date with the Lions could be the cure for what ails them. It’s hard to identify any phase of the game that Detroit excels at, and by the end of Monday night, Aaron Rodgers could be looking like an MVP again.

NFL award predictions

MVPPatrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

There’s no doubt that Mahomes is the boring pick here, but he seems like a mortal lock to put up huge numbers for a team likely to post one of the best records in the league. The 2018 MVP can consistently make throws that his peers wouldn’t dare attempt, and his combination of risk-taking and efficiency is unmatched.

Offensive Player of the YearDavante Adams, Green Bay Packers

This award often goes to the skill position player who puts up the most impressive stats, and Adams has a great chance to be that guy because of how much Aaron Rodgers feeds him the ball. While he isn’t a physical specimen, Adams has incredible hands and body control, which helped him lead the NFL in receiving touchdowns and yards per game last season.

Defensive Player of the YearMyles Garrett, Cleveland Browns

Aaron Donald is usually a good bet for this award, but he’s turning 30 this year and a significant upgrade to the Rams’ offense could keep him off the field a little more in 2021. Garrett isn’t just a dynamic pass rusher, he’s also got an incredible knack for making plays on the football, and he rarely misses a tackle.

Offensive Rookie of the YearTrevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Not only is Lawrence the best quarterback prospect to enter the league in years, he’s also got a guaranteed starting job and a dubious team around him that will need him to air it out to compete. Lawrence might not provide elite efficiency in the early going, but he should put up volume numbers and add value with his ability to create yards with his legs.

Defensive Rookie of the YearMicah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys

Parsons is a versatile defender capable of contributing in a number of ways, and he had a dominant preseason with the Cowboys that showed he’s ready to make an instant impact. Dallas is also coming off such a rough year defensively that any significant improvement could be credited to Parsons.

Comeback Player of the YearOdell Beckham Jr., Cleveland Browns

Even though the Browns utilize a run-heavy offense, there should be enough targets for Beckham Jr. to produce. We haven’t seen him play his best football since he left the Giants, and he’s coming off an ACL tear, but he’s still just 28 and remains one of the most gifted pass catchers in the game.

Coach of the YearBrandon Staley, Los Angeles Chargers

Last season Staley’s work as the defensive coordinator of the Rams was nothing short of outstanding, and if he can recapture some of that success in support of the Chargers’ ascendant offense, they could produce a turnaround season. If he’s able to point the snake-bitten franchise in the right direction as a rookie head coach, the recognition will follow.

Key storylines of the NFL season

Could this be a legendary rookie quarterback class?

So far just Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones have earned starting spots, but that pair— combined with Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance—has the potential to change the balance of power in the NFL. It’s easy to get too excited about rookie quarterbacks, who have a tendency to bust, but between Lawrence’s all-around game, the dual-threat possibilities that Fields and Lance present, and the in-pocket competence of Jones, there’s a lot to like here. Wilson is probably the biggest wild card, but he’s got all the tools to thrive if the Jets’ offense can improve around him.

Will Matt Stafford’s move to Los Angeles shake up the NFC?

For years the Rams were flooded with talent on both sides of the ball, but seemed to be held back by Jared Goff’s limitations as a passer. Although Stafford’s record in Detroit is far from spotless, his arm strength is remarkable and he’s expected to pile up wins now that he’s plying his trade for a more successful franchise guided by offensive wizard Sean McVay.

Is this the end of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay?

For parts of the offseason it looked like Rodgers had played his last game in a Packers jersey, but he’s back for at least one more run. It’s hard to imagine him playing for another team, but that’s looking probable so the 2020 MVP’s campaign with Green Bay should be appreciated. It will take a Herculean effort on his part to end his time with the Packers on a championship note, but it’s far from impossible.

Who’s going to stop the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

The Buccaneers have a well-balanced roster and a legendary quarterback, and are coming off a season that saw them get better and better as they gelled on the way to a Super Bowl title. Now the New Orleans Saints figure to pose far less resistance in the NFC South with Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees hanging up his cleats. Tampa Bay is no lock to repeat, but the team is in a good spot.

Who’s going to win the Super Bowl?

Even early in the season there are a few teams that look like clear contenders to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The Kansas City Chiefs are at the top of that list thanks to the presence of Patrick Mahomes at quarterback and his elite weapons, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill. It would also be unwise to rule out the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have the legendary Tom Brady at the helm as well as a top-flight defense.

Beyond the teams who made the Super Bowl last year are a couple of clubs who had unstoppable offenses—the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers, although both face-planted out of the gate in Week 1. The Cleveland Browns’ combination of a dominant rushing attack and a sturdy defense gives them a shot, and the same could be said for the Baltimore Ravens.

Another place to look for a contender would be the NFC West—the most stacked division in the NFL. The Los Angeles Rams have a balanced roster that got a major upgrade at quarterback in the form of Matthew Stafford, the San Francisco 49ers are led by perhaps the best offensive mind in the game in Kyle Shanahan, and the Seattle Seahawks have Russell Wilson leading the charge and a new offensive philosophy that could open up their potential through the air.

Here are the championship probabilities of the top 10 teams as calculated by FiveThirtyEight:

TeamChampionship Probability
Kansas City Chiefs16%
Tampa Bay Buccaneers14%
Los Angeles Rams8%
New Orleans Saints7%
Seattle Seahawks6%
Buffalo Bills5%
San Francisco 49ers4%
Baltimore Ravens4%

  1. I’ve always loved the game of football itself, but never ever liked the NFL as an organization.
I have a hard time wrapping my head around & understanding the logic behind letting international customers watch most of the games live but not here in the US where the frigging game originated!
I tell ya it’s unamerican & the NFL should be held accountable!
Think I’ll start a movement to call out the NFL for treating US citizens this way, cause if it wasn’t for us fans here in the US the NFL wouldn’t exist!

  2. Hi!

I signed on yesterday and tried to get DAZN Canada, but unfortunately it didn’t work as it showed me an error when trying to sign in to DAZN. I looked up the error online on reddit and someone suggested trying from Vancouver but that didn’t work.
I tried going to the NFL game pass mexico site but it appeared to be blocked.

Has Dazn/NFL blocked Express VPN? if not, are there other ways for me to work this out?

  3. Increase the volume up on the sportcasters that are calling the Packers vs. Vikings game. On TV, the (faux) volume of the stand fans/white noise is louder thus we can’t clearly hear the calls. Thank you.

  4. Hi,
I am living in the Detroit Area, have PS Vue and want to watch every Packers game.
Is it possible via ExpressVPN e.g. via a virtual server that is located in Wisconsin?
    Thanks a lot.

    1. Hi Mike,

You will need to connect to a server location where Packers games aren’t blacked out. In the past, connecting to the nearest non-Wisconsin location has delivered the best results.

  5. If I purchase NFL Game pass with a US address CC will it let me access the International version?
Everyone says get the International version,,,,,it doesn’t matter what your Bank / CC billing address is ?

  6. Hi, I want to purchase the game pass essential from Spain. Can I watch the Game in 40 min of all games? Including the Game in 40 min of the playoffs? Thanks.

  7. I have expressvpn. I connected to Thailand and went to gamepass and started a trail for their top tier package. But whenever i go to watch the videos it just sits ad loading with the dots.

I’ve cleared my browser cookies and histrory, I’ve downloaded the browser extension, I tried both chrome and firefox, i updated flash…but still no go….Can you help me figure this out?

    1. Hi Kevin,

If you’re on Windows, please try watching on Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge. If you’re on Mac, please try watching on Safari.

  8. hello, please help, i live in PA and i would like to watch my favorite team the atlanta falcons all year long including pre-season games. The only games that ever show in my area are the dam eagles and giants, what do i need to do to watch my falcons live??

    1. Hi Brent,

Try watching through the international version of NFL Game Pass. Simply connect to a non-U.S. location (you can get further advice by contacting Support: and purchase the Game Pass. This will give you access to every Falcons game, including the preseason and postseason, all the way up to the Super Bowl.

How are you feeling about the season? We’re expecting a bounce-back campaign for Atlanta after last year!

        1. Hi Nicki,

From the ExpressVPN app, click on the bar that indicates your current location. You can then select a non-U.S. location to connect to.

  9. I just moved from NY to Florida and want to stream and watch my NY Jets football games on my tv not a mobile device. I do not want to get satelite service just to get nfl sunday ticket. Do you have a solution that will work for me that is not too complicated? i have very good internet speeds

  10. Hello, I was bombed by NFL Game Pass that I can no longer get Game Pass in 2019 from Panama Central America where I live. I cover the Miami Dolphins for a living, so this puts me in a bind. I used the coaches cam on Game Pass regularly, so getting access to it , and the games is paramount to me smiling again. How can I get my former access back through your VPN? Just purchase, download, and then resign up for Game Pass? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Michael,

Please try connecting to a U.S. server location and logging into your account. Domestic versions of NFL Game Pass include the All-22 Coaches Film. This feature may not be available to certain versions of the international Game Pass.

  11. Still can’t figure out why Daniel Jones went sixth. But y’all watch when he leads Big Blue to the playoffs lol

  12. I live in Williamsburg, VA. I have Direct TV. I want to see the Atlanta Falcons (in real time) but I am blocked except for regularly scheduled nationally televised games, how can I get around this block?

  13. I am going to be in Acapulco during the Chiefs playoff game. I have the NFL game day pass but have not had any luck making it work in the past. What do I need to do to see this game?

    1. Hi Luke,

Did you purchase the U.S. Game Pass or the international Game Pass?

If you’re using the international Game Pass, you should have no problem watching the games. Please try connecting to a non-U.S. VPN location before watching one of the games.

If you bought the U.S. Game Pass, you won’t be able to watch any of the games live. However, you can use Sling or any of the other services mentioned above. They all come with a free trial.

  14. Youtube will allow three changes of address then you just erase your account and sign in again and you will get three more address changes This is the way I received the NFL this year. I now better ways now! thanks for the ideas

  15. My husband is an avid Steelers fan. We live in Virginia so are subjected to plenty of blackouts on the season games. We have a full cable package on Comcast so are not limited by that source. We don’t have a smart TV but do have Samsung S9 phones on Verizon. What is our best option to see the games live?

  16. I have now become a little confused. I am in NJ and only want to watch the Packers’ games. How hard is it to / how do you / change-over to an in-market TV station for Wisconsin? THX in advance.

    1. Hi Ken,

Which streaming method are you using? If you’re using the international version of NFL Game Pass, you will have access to all games and won’t face blackouts. If you’re using a domestic stream, try connecting to a non-Wisconsin location before you watch a game.

For any further issues, please contact Support:

      p.s. Go Pack Go! 😉

      1. Quick Question – Once I sign up for the International Game Pass, do I need to VPN everytime I want to use it? Or can i just use my login and get access?

I would love to use the NFL APP on the Apple TV to navigate the games but not sure if I need to VPN in everytime in order to watch it.

  17. Just signed up for game pass via Germany server. Looks like I’m good to go with streaming live. Question: will I nerd to install expressvpn at the router level to use the NFL app on my Xbox one now that my international account is active? Like, will it black out a game if it knows my Xbox is stateside?

    1. Hi Gil,

You can try NFL Game Pass’s “Follow Your Team” package. For the best prices, connect to a VPN location in Asia and then purchase/access the international Game Pass. Get the “Follow Your Team” package and select the Eagles. If you need guidance on which locations to use, please speak to Support:

    1. Hi Zeke,

For Game Pass, connect to a VPN location in Asia and then purchase/access the international Game Pass. If you only want to follow the Dolphins, you can select the “Follow Your Team” package and save some money. If you need guidance on which locations to use, please speak to Support:

Another option to check out is NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV offers NFL Sunday Ticket as a standalone product, but you’ll need to prove that your address doesn’t support DirecTV or that you live in a multi-unit residence (like an apartment).

      Hope that helps!

  18. Hello,

I’m from Germany and would like to watch all of the NFL games. Can I access the Gamepass with all of the live games from Germany?

  19. Want to watch the Washington Redskins from Florida, however, it is out-of-market . I downloaded ExpressVPN. Since it’s out-of-market, I have to select a Location that is not in the US, correct? I selected Canada based on the speed test. Is that correct? Now, what is the next step? Thank you.

    1. Hi Celeste,

Which streaming package are you using? Please try connecting to a location where Redskins games are part of the in-market coverage e.g. the Washington DC locations.

  20. Hi there,

I want to know more about watching NFL game pass from Canada. Any other options besides DAZN? What’s the game pass price?

    1. Hi Brooke,

Outside of DAZN, you can watch the games for free on mobile by downloading the NFL Mobile app or the Yahoo Sports app. Be sure to connect to a U.S. location before watching.

Otherwise, you can connect to an overseas location to purchase the international game pass. Good locations to try are Australia, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

  21. Why is it necessary to use the Browser extension when watching a game? I have been using Express VPN without the Browser extension on my computer for some time now, am I exposing my location by doing so??

    1. Hi Jimmy,

Some content and stream providers have started to block content based on the geolocation of users. The ExpressVPN browser extension prevents your browser from revealing your location and can help you access streams with privacy, no matter where you are.

Using the browser extension is not necessary for many sites, but for others, this will ensure an interruption-free streaming experience.

  22. I recently purchased NFL Game Pass, to watch the Kansas City Chiefs games while overseas. I didn’t realize the restrictions on watching overseas, so I just bought ExpressVPN, hoping that I can make it look like I’m still in the US. However, when I try to access the games, I am still having issues. In theory, should I be able to use ExpressVPN to watch the games outside of the US? If so, do you know what might be going wrong?

    1. Hi Garrett,

Which device are you trying to watch the games on? If you’re trying to watch on Windows or Mac, make sure you’re connected to the VPN and are using the ExpressVPN browser extension. If you’re on mobile, make sure you’re connected to the VPN and try to disable location sharing.

If you have further issues, please contact Support at

    1. Hi Steve,

To watch in the UK, try watching the games via the NFL app or the Yahoo Sports app. Remember to connect to a location in the U.S. before downloading the apps and make sure you’re still connected when watching the games.

    1. Hi Allie,

You can try watching the games using the Verizon or Yahoo Sports apps. Due to in-market restrictions, make sure you’re connected to a VPN location that’s showing the game or the nearest available location.

      1. I am also going to try this. I connected to a local VPN, but the yahoo sports app still says the game is not available in my location. Does that have to do with my phone GPS? Or is it because the game doesn’t start until tomorrow?

        1. Hi Brian,

For best results, please try turning off your mobile location. You may also want to try connecting to a server location that’s closer to the game broadcast.

        2. I have trying to figure out how to watch the Colts for the past 2 years I have lived in Montana. The only teams that they ever play here are Seattle, Denver, Green Bay, Minnesota, and the nationally televised games. I’ve only gotten to watch 2 Colts games live in 2 years and one of the times I was actually in Texas. I’ve tried the VPN on my phone, Xbox one, laptop, and Roku Smart TV. All trying to use the NFL app. And I’ve also tried free trials of Sling, Fubo, YouTube, and just about anything else on all my devices and even being connected to the VPN it still only offers me the same teams/games. What would you recommend I try? And what location would be best for me to try and connect to? Thanks

          1. Is there a way to do it without using international game pass? I really just want to watch one team so I don’t want to pay that much when I could possibly do it with a cheaper subscription.

  23. I want to watch all NFL games via from my laptop or phone while I’m at work. If I purchase one of the 3 packages this will allow me to watch any and all NFL games? I especially only want to watch my Eagles. Please help!! Ty

    1. Hi Jade,

It depends on where you are. Verizon (via the NFL Mobile and Yahoo Sports apps) offers free streams, but you’ll need to check if the Eagles are an in-market game for where you are. Otherwise, you can sign up for any of the other paid packages, just be sure to cancel before the free trial ends and catch any other games you’re missing on Twitch (for free!)

  24. I want to watch NFL on my Vizio Smart TV and have a Roku player but no cable subscription. Will the purchase of the VPN allow me to use DAZN to stream the games to my TV?

  25. So, are you saying that even with an ExpressVPN account, I will need to have a cable subscription in order to live stream any and all of the events I wish to watch?

    1. Hi Billy,

Not necessarily. This past season, Yahoo Sports offered free streams for the playoffs. Amazon offered free Thursday Night Football, while services like Sling TV showed regular season games and come with a free trial. With a VPN, a cable subscription is nice but not necessary 🙂

  26. I’m from Philadelphia, but will be in Israel for the Superbowl. The hotel that I’m staying at says that they don’t have Fox Sports, so I need to live stream the event to my devices–my iPhone 7 plus and my pad, which is an Android. For the latter, I was going to use ExpressVPN and YouTube TV, which is what you were saying a few days ago. But now you are saying to download TV player and have a TV license. Do I really need a licence? How do I get one? If I have to download TV Player, do I have to select a UK server thru ExpressVPN? Will the option that you were originally suggesting NOT work, i.e., ExpressVPN, selecting a US server, and using YouTube TV?

As a back-up, I was going to use ExpressVPN on my cell phone, select a US server, and download the Yahoo Sports app. Will that work?

Please advise on both matters. Thanks!

    1. Hi there,

ExpressVPN helps you access the various networks used to watch the NFL. However, you will need a cable subscription in order to watch the actual games. If you need guidance with which ExpressVPN servers to use, please get in touch with the support team at 🙂
