Support Documentation :: ExpressVPN Servers

We run two types of VPN networks:

OpenVPN-based (default)

PPTP and L2TP IPSec based

1. OpenVPN-based (default).

This typically offers the fastest and most reliable connections and rarely gets blocked by ISPs. This is the network to which you'll connect by default after installing our software.

Server Locations:

  • Los Angeles, USA
  • Seattle, USA
  • San Francisco and San Jose, USA
  • Chicago, USA
  • USA East Coast (New York and Washington DC)
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom (London)
  • United Kingdom (Isle of Man)
  • Netherlands (Amsterdam)
  • Netherlands (Rotterdam)
  • Germany
  • France
  • Switzerland
  • Luxembourg
  • Hong Kong

TCP Connection Files
If you're having trouble connecting via our default connection files, that might because your network operator or company firewall is blocking UDP connections. In that case, please use our TCP configuration files. On Windows, simply select "TCP" from the Options menu. On Mac, please log into our website, click on "VPN Account", and download your TCP configuration files there.

2. PPTP and L2TP/IPSec based

This is a backup option in case OpenVPN doesn't work for you, or if you're using a Smartphone. This option uses your Operating Systems' built-in support for VPNs, so no software installation is required. However, this option is also more likely to get blocked by ISPs. To receive one of these accounts, please contact us.

Server Locations:

  • Hong Kong (close to China, but not necessarily faster than the US West Coast. Network speeds depend mostly on the width of the pipe, not on distance.)
  • USA
  • Canada
  • UK
  • Netherlands
  • Germany
