If you are connected via ExpressVPN but still blocked from certain websites such as Facebook, the following are some typical reasons and how to troubleshoot them.
The browser is configured to use another proxy
Websites may remain blocked because your computer may have the DNS servers of your ISP (Internet Service Provider) saved even when using ExpressVPN. To enable access to these websites, you may need to flush your DNS cache.
To explain in more detail, some countries configure their DNS servers to deliberately return wrong information for DNS lookups of domains that they like to block (i.e. for facebook.com). Your computer might temporarily save that information, and still try to use the wrong IPs even when connected to the VPN. To solve this, you can manually clear your DNS information. When connected to the VPN, your computer will then use our DNS servers to do the lookup again
**Instructions for flushing the DNS are located here.
For most users this error occurs when they connect to the VPN. However this does not happen on the computers of some customers. To fix this, you will need to manually update your DNS servers.
